DAY 1:
Thessaloniki airport SKG / Litochoro
We welcome you at the airport of Thessaloniki “Macedonia” SKG and by ecological vehicle we head to Litochoro, a village at the foot of Mt Olympus. Check in at the hotel. Stroll through the alleys of Litochoro and enjoy a special dinner at an award-winning restaurant.
DAY 2:
Litochoro / Platamonas / Paleos Panteleimon.
On this day we enjoy traditional pie “Pita Litochoro” from the bakery and coffee in the area that the residents call “Lakos”. We visit the “Olympus National Park Information Center” and the New Monastery of Agios Dionysios Olympus where we learn about the products produced in the Monastery. At the seaside village of Platamonas we have lunch with fish and the famous “Platamonas shrimps” and in the traditional settlement of Paleos Panteleimon with the wonderful view, we enjoy Greek coffee and traditional sweets.
In the evening, in the center of Litochoro, we have a wine tasting with wines from three wineries of Olympus. A day full of Flavors.
DAY 3:
Litochoro / Katerini city
At a farm, we will get to know and taste the local cheese products made from sheep and goat milk. In the city of Katerini we enjoy traditional “piroski” and “Olympus tea” and while walking on the main pedestrian street of the town we visit selected shops with local products. Coffee here is a must. Enjoy it in a characteristic part of the city. We have lunch under the trees in the city park and return to Litochoro with many memories of tastes. On our evening walk we enjoy sweets at the oldest pastry shop in Litochoro
DAY 4:
Dion / Trilofos / Litochoro
We depart for a guided tour of the Archaeological Park and the Archaeological Museum of Dion, the sacred city of the Ancient Macedonians. Later we can optionally visit the “Olympus black pig farm”. The indigenous Greek black pig is an ancient inhabitant of the Mediterranean. It is a domesticated breed and not a wild boar, even though they look similar, and is considered an endangered species along with other native animal breeds. At a farm in the village of Trilofos we ride horses and enjoy lunch with local dishes such as black pig. Free evening in Litochoro.
DAY 5:
Paralia Katerini / Thessaloniki
Departure to Paralia Katerini, where we will take part in a cooking class (Spoon desserts or opening a pie crust or Greek meze) and taste the famous “Makrygialos mussels”. Late at the afternoon we arrive to Thessaloniki, which recently became the first Greek city to achieve its inclusion in the Network of Creative Cities of Gastronomy of UNESCO. Thessaloniki is always mentioned as the gastronomic capital of Greece. Dinner at a historic restaurant and free evening for walking on the seaside and “Ladadika”, one of the most famous parts of the city.
DAY 6:
Thessaloniki
Breakfast, with “Bougatsa” traditional breakfast of northern Greece. Enjoy a morning walking food tour of Thessaloniki’s markets (Modiano, Kapani, Bezesteni) and Athos Square, just a few blocks from your hotel. A meal with fantastic flavors guaranteed at one of the many traditional restaurants in the Modiano market. Rest at the hotel. At the afternoon we visit the White Tower and have city tour by tourist bus enjoying Greek fast food, gyros pie or souvlaki or “Trigona Panorama” sweets.
DAY 7:
Thessaloniki and Surrounding areas
Departure for Neo Ryssio, to a local Honey Park to learn how bees produce honey, how many different types of honey there are, how much and what products are produced from honey and of course you will try them too! Visit to the Women’s Agricultural Cooperative of Agios Antonios where you will watch a demonstration of the preparation of traditional dishes by the women of the cooperative. You will also try some of their products before going for lunch. Meal in a restaurant with traditional dishes from Pontus and all of Greece, made with pure, fresh ingredients. Rest at the hotel. On the wooden boat cruise, we have our coffee or drink and admire the view of the city and Mt Olympus. Farewell dinner with Greek traditional “glenti” (folklore music and dances) tasting delicious “meze” and wines.
