Katerini Beach welcomes the new generation of Greek sailing

  • Kostas Koukodimos: Katerini supports & enthusiastically welcomes the new generation of Greek sailing
  • Κostas Karyotis: Honor and distinction for NOKAT and for Pieria the assignment of the event

The pulse of another important sporting event, the OPTIMIST U13 Panhellenic Boat Championship, for ages from 7 to 12 years old, will take place from 16 to 20 April, in Katerini Beach. More than 600 athletes are expected to offer a rich spectacle, excitement and high performance to the fans of Katerini and the wider region.

The Greek Sailing Federation, the Nautical Club of Katerini (N.O.KAT) and the Municipality of Katerini are responsible for the organization, while the races will be held with the kind support of: the Holy Metropolis of Citrus, Katerini and Platamonos and the Regional Unity of Pieria.

As Kostas Koukodimos, the Mayor of Katerini, stresses in a statement, “Katerini with its long sporting history supports and enthusiastically welcomes the new generation of Greek sailing. Our Municipality, a long-time supporter of the initiatives of the country’s sporting bodies, has proven in practice that it serves sport. With these thoughts in mind, I would like to point out that it is a great pleasure and honour for our country to be awarded the OPTIMIST U13 Panhellenic Championship. I wish from the bottom of my heart, the event to be crowned with absolute organizational and racing success. In this direction, the experience of the staff of the Hellenic Sailing Federation, the Naval Club of Katerini (N.O.KAT) and all the bodies involved are a guarantee. I wish all the expeditions a good stay and every success in their efforts”.

As Kostas Karyotis, President of NOKAT, points out: “It is an honour and a distinction for NOKAT and for Pieria to be awarded the organization of the OPTIMIST U13 National Boat Championship. It is the Panhellenic Cup for 11-year-olds which was upgraded to a championship and is now held every year. NOCAT has the experience, the know-how and the appropriate human resources to handle even the most demanding event. Together with our partners we work feverishly to provide athletes, coaches, chaperones and spectators with the best possible experience. At the same time, the SeaWay Festival is organized near the NOKAT facilities, which comes to complement and highlight this event. We thank the Metropolis of Kitros, the Regional Unit of Pieria and the Municipality of Katerini for being on our side from the very first moment, as well as all the businesses that are recipients of our sponsorship proposal”.

The SeaWay Festival

At the same time, the SeaWay Festival will be organized for the first time in facilities near the Yacht Club, which will present to the public products and services of sponsors related to the sport and the sea. There will also be a special food and drink area (food festival) and outdoor activities for young and old (treasure hunts, horse riding, sand games, etc.). Soon, the organisers will present the full programme and exhibits of the first Sea Way Festival. Open Ways in collaboration with NOCAT are organising the 1st Sea Way Festival.
